When you're planning a wedding there are going to be some times that you need off work. This goes double for those that are hosting the celebration away from home. But, this is also usually a pretty expensive party that you'll be throwing and you want to make sure that you're not missing out on that much pay. With some jobs, like if you were working for one of the major mortgage brokers Canada based, you are entitled to at least a few weeks of paid vacation. But there are other places where your vacation pay is simply added to your weekly paycheck. Here are some things that you can do to balance your vacation pay and time when playing and attending your wedding.
First you should make sure that you're thinking about how much time you will want to take for vacation in regards to your wedding well in advance. You don't want to decide to take a few days off to go on a spa trip with the girls a few months before your big day only to later realize that was the last of your vacation allotment for the year. Talk to your boss or the people in human resources and make sure that you're up to date on how much vacation time you still have available if you are in a situation where it is paid. If you're working for a large business, like an Avaya contact center, than there should be someone within the office who is in charge of keeping track of this information.
If you're not in a situation where you have paid vacation than there might be some things that you can do to still take off the days that you want without losing out on those days pay. If you're working part time in a Mississauga dental office or a store, for example, than you might want to see if you can switch shifts with some of the other employees to make up for the lost time. If you're traveling to a quaint cottage in the country for a week to get married than you might be able to work all of your shifts in the couple of weeks before you leave. Or, if there are things that you can come in to do on the weekend you might be able to work overtime for a few Saturdays. This is a good suggestion for someone who works for themselves, like a Toronto business consultant.
If it's not possible to switch your shifts or work at a different time that you should think about putting away your vacation pay before you have a chance to spend it on your regular paychecks. Anyone who's working for a Richmond Hill optometrist to working in an office should have that extra four percent on each check. Send this to a separate account and don't use it until you need it. Then it will be like you're getting paid vacation as you're taking the days off.
