Planting your own vegetable garden in the backyard of your London, Ontario real estate is an excellent way to get good quality organic vegetables onto your family's dinner plates for less. It also helps to reduce your dependency on dwindling international food imports. However, there are some things to watch out for when you're planting your own garden, and one of them is the property line. To learn more about how property lines can make or break your garden, read on.

The property lines are the invisible divisions between your real estate in Vaughan and your neighbors'. Their locations are determined by surveyors before any houses are erected on the property. Legally you are only able to alter or utilize land that belongs to you, so if you are planning on planting a backyard garden, it's important that you know where you property lines are or you could end up illegally planting vegetables in your neighbor's yard.

If there's already a fence between you and your neighbor's homes in Markham, obviously there will be no problems as long as you don't climb over the fence into your neighbor's yard and start planting. But most property lines are invisible. They exist only on paper, so it can sometimes be difficult to know where they are. Even if you think you know where your property lines are, you may be wrong, so you should always check before you start planting.

One way to find out where your property line lies is to look around for the surveyor's stakes. They look like giant screws that are driven almost all the way into the ground, and they have metal or orange plastic heads. They mark the corners of your yard, so you can tie string between them to delineate the borders of your Toronto Beaches real estate. Your sale documents should also list how far back the property extends, and if worse comes to worse you've have to get a surveyor to come in.

If you ignore your property lines and plant anyway, several things can happen. Sometimes nothing will happen if your neighbor doesn't know you're on his land, but if either of you decide to put your homes on the Ajax real estate listings it will come up then and cause problems. But if he does know, he can legally force you to remove your garden, in court if necessary. Remember: even if there's a vacant lot behind your yard, someone owns it, so don't plant there without permission.
