A lot of people who choose cottage weddings do so because they don't want to have a wedding that looks like it was handled by a firm that does corporate event planning in Toronto. Cottage weddings allow you to get away have a private, intimate ceremony with only your family and friends on hand. However, having the wedding in a remote location can cause problems when it comes to guest accommodation.

Most cottage weddings are handled on site by a single resort or hotel but some utilize a piece of Prince Edward Island real estate that is owned by someone close to the couple. Regardless of where the actual wedding is going to take place, there should be enough accommodation to house all your guests. If the wedding is on site at a resort, you'll need to make sure it has enough rooms to house everyone on your guest list. If you're having it on private property, make sure there are cottages or a hotel somewhere nearby.

Hotels, inns, and resorts in remote locations tend to be much smaller than their big city counterparts, so if you want all your guests to be located conveniently you may have to shrink your guests list somewhat. Whereas you might be able to accommodate 400 guests if you were using a wedding rental in Toronto, it's almost impossible to find space for that many people in a cottage wedding setting. Most people who are having cottage weddings invite only family and close friends.

Like any destination wedding, when you're planning a cottage wedding you have more to worry about than finding a PEI cottage for rent where you and your fiancee can stay. You will also have to arrange accommodation for all of your guests. While you won't have to pay for it, you're still expected to reserve enough rooms at the hotel or resort of your choice to accommodate everyone you expect to come (this is where RSVPs come in handy). You should also arrange for a group discount for your guests.

Even so, some people may not be able to afford to come, especially if they're still paying off an expensive piece of Toronto Beaches real estate, so be prepared for some people to say no. You might also run into problems with booking enough rooms, as bunking so-and-so in with their friend, sibling, or partner might not work out if they've had a fight, so expect there to be some frantic reshuffling at the last minute.
